5 Steps to Make Your Post More Readable
Here are 5 steps to make your post more readable. This will make a world of difference in inviting people to ready your whole post. This is extremely important if you want more people to read your articles and possibly subscribe to your RSS feed.
Step 1- Separate your posts into 3 or 4 sections.
Always use a bold heading for each section so that your readers are able to understand the main theme of your article. Since most people just scan the article for key points, why not make those key points stand out immediately when they land on your page.
Step 2- Break up your posts into smaller sections.
Not very many people want to read a lengthy article. It is easier for people to absorb information in smaller portions. I recommend that you keep your post to under 500 words and keep each paragraph between 4-5 sentences.
Step 3- Use bulleted and numbered lists.
List will break up the article and make it easier for your reader to scan for key information. These list may include; benefits or tips. Be sure and indent your list or better yet center it, so that it stands out from the rest of your text.
Step 4- Pick out great images.
Pictures are a great way to break up your article and draw your readers attention right where you want them to go. Make sure the picture makes sense for your subject matter.
I have not tried this personally but I did read somewhere, if you want your visitor to look in a specific area first, place a picture of someone looking that direction or have an arrow pointing in that direction. Give it a try, it just might work. I'm going to try it on my next post.
Step 5- Use contrasting colors on your site.
I suggest in the content area you use the basic white background with black writing. This makes it easier to read your text. If you want to add some color then highlight keywords and make them red. Have you ever been to website that has black background with yellow writing? It is very hard to read. Needless to say most people won't stay on that site long.
The whole purpose of writing an article is to have people read it. Make it easy for them so they will stay on your site and hopefully read more of what you have written.
